The Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball team is climbing the standings and the national rankings.
The Bobcats moved up from seventh to fifth in the latest CIS Top-10 rankings, after splitting a series on the road with the second-ranked Trinity Western Spartans (11-3), behind 37 kills over two matches from Sam Tuivai. The Spartans slipped from second to third in this week’s rankings.
After losing the opener to the Spartans, the Bobcats won the rematch to improve to 10-4 for sole possession of third place in the Canada West conference standings entering a big battle this weekend with the No.1-ranked Alberta Golden Bears, who lead the conference with a perfect 14-0 record.
The Bobcats host the Golden Bears on Friday (7:45 p.m.) and Saturday (6:45 p.m.) at BU’s Healthy Living Centre.
In women’s volleyball action, the unranked Bobcats (5-9) will also face a tough test when they host the third-ranked Alberta Pandas (11-3) on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m.).
Meanwhile, the unranked Bobcats men’s (3-9) and women’s (0-12) basketball teams head west to B.C. this weekend to battle the UBC Thunderbirds and the Victoria Vikes.
