Bobcats release new division schedule

The Brandon University Bobcats know how their first season in the Canada West conference’s new basketball format will be laid out.

Canada West unveiled its schedules for the 2014-15 Canadian Interuniversity Sport season on Friday, with the Bobcat hoops teams placed in the new Pioneer Division.

The Bobcats have been grouped in the division with prairie rivals Manitoba, Winnipeg and Regina as well as UBC and Victoria. New to the schedule this season are less demanding road trips, with the teams to play each other back-to-back in the same city on weekends rather than travelling to face different teams on consecutive days.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams will open their 20-game season on Oct. 31, hosting the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

In volleyball, the BU teams open their 24-match schedules on the road against the Mount Royal Cougars on Oct. 10, with their home openers on Oct. 24 against the Calgary Dinos.
