Jordan Reaves hit a three-point shot to give the Brandon University men’s basketball team the lead in overtime and added late free throws to seal the game as the Bobcats beat the Winnipeg Wesmen 83-80 at the Wesmen Invitational on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
Reaves, who was named to the all-star team, finished the game with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Bobcats wrapped up their pre-season schedule on a winning note.
Tournament MVP Ilarion Bonhomme added 16 points, with Emerick Ravier and Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak both chipping in with 14.
Meanwhile, in Mayville, N.D., the Bobcat women’s basketball team dropped a 92-78 decision to the host Mayville State Comets in their final exhibition contest. Cassie Cooke posted 37 points, including seven three-pointers, with Stephanie Haynes adding 15 points for BU, while Kaela Cranston was just shy of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Both Bobcat basketball teams begin Canada West season play on Friday when they host the Victoria Vikes at BU’s Healthy Living Centre.
