Home cooking was just what the doctor ordered as the Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball team upset the best team in Canada last night.
The Bobcats beat the No.1-ranked Trinity Western University Spartans 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23) in front of a full house at BU’s Healthy Living Centre.
"It was good to see our guys play with a lot of emotion and confidence again," BU head coach Grant Wilson said.
Sebastien Steigmeier led the way for the ninth-ranked Bobcats (9-10) with 14 kills, while Sam Tuivai finished 12 rallies.
Wilson said controlling points with tough serves was the key.
It was a big win for the Bobcats, who continue to claw and scrap in order to make the playoffs in the Canada West conference.
"We’re fighting for our playoff lives and we definitely needed to get the win," Wilson said.
The Bobcats host the rematch against the Spartans (17-2) tonight at 6:45.
It will be fifth-year Bobcat middle Dan Boutwell’s final game in Brandon.
