Drake Bodie had a goal and two assists to lead the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to a 5-3 victory over the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons on Friday at the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg.
In Friday’s other games, it was: Dauphin Kings 4, Winnipeg Blues 3 (SO); Selkirk Steelers 6, Virden Oil Capitals 4; Swan Valley Stampeders 4, Neepawa Natives 3 (OT); and OCN Blizzard 4, Winkler Flyers 2.
Wolverines 5 Pistons 3
Nicholas Schreiner, George Spilchal, J.J. Cruikshank and Jared Sprink also scored for Waywayseecappo (2-2-1), while Mat Verreault made 37 saves. Colin Baudry, Matt Franczyk and Garret Schmitz scored for Steinbach (5-1-0).
Earlier in the day, the Wolverines acquired 19-year-old forward Dylan Gedjos from Virden for future considerations. Gedjos was pointless in his lone game of the season.
Steelers 6 Oil Capitals 4
Brady Bouchard had two goals and an assist while Parker Thomas notched a goal and three assists to lead Selkirk (4-2-0), which also received goals from Erik Pushka, Soren Fredriksen and Brett Dudar. Braden Ostepchuk made 19 saves. Brandonite Cody Nelson, Cole Hamblin, Jake Dudar and Cory Haverstick scored for Virden (3-2-0).
Stampeders 4 Natives 3 (OT)
Mitch Deacon scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Stampeders (4-4-0). He finished with one goal and one helper, as did Max Provencher. Henry Berger, Robby Moar and Riley Hillis scored for the Natives (1-3-2).
Kings 4 Blues 3 (SO)
Killarney’s Brian Archibald stopped 25 shots in regulation time and three of four in the shootout to backstop the Kings (4-2-0) to victory. Francis Alarie scored in regulation time and added the shootout winner. Brandonite Mitch Van Teeling also scored for Dauphin, while Cartwright’s Tristen Mullin had one helper.
Scott Roswell scored in regulation and the shootout for Winnipeg (1-3-1).
Blizzard 4 Flyers 2
Damien Kulynych scored twice for the Blizzard (3-2-1), while Grant Valiquette added one goal and two helpers. Tristan Keck and Connor Hamonic replied for the Flyers (1-5-0). Alex Henry stopped 42 shots for OCN.
