Boes backs pair of wins

For the second straight week, former Brandon Wheat King Corbin Boes is the Western Hockey League’s nominee for the Canadian Hockey League goalie of the week award.

Boes backstopped the Portland Winterhawks to wins over the Edmonton Oil Kings in the first two games of the Ed Chynoweth Cup league final on the weekend, stopping 59 of the 62 shots he faced for a 1.50 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. Boes has won all six of his appearances in the WHL post-season, leading the league with a 1.73 GAA and a .944 pct.

The WHL player of the week is Winterhawks forward Paul Bittner, who notched three goals and an assist in the first two games of the series. The Oil Kings host Game 3 of the best-of-seven series tonight (9 o’clock, WCG-TV).
