Shawn Bowles’ goal four minutes into the Portage Terriers’ Manitoba Junior Hockey League game on Sunday held up as the winner as they topped the host Winkler Flyers 2-0.
Brad Bowles, who’s also from Elkhorn, assisted on the goal, with Zach Waldvogel notching the other marker for the Terriers (32-13-6). Talor Joseph made 33 saves for the shutout. Adam Vander Linden made 37 stops for the Flyers (15-31-4).
In Sunday’s other game, it was: Selkirk Steelers 7, Winnipeg Blues 3.
On Saturday, it was: Dauphin Kings 5, Virden Oil Capitals 1; Waywayseecappo Wolverines 2, OCN Blizzard 1; Swan Valley Stampeders 7, Neepawa Natives 6 (OT); Terriers 5, Steelers 4 (SO); and Flyers 5, Steinbach Pistons 4.
Steelers 7 Blues 3
At Selkirk, Ty Kraus and Erik Pushka both had two goals and an assist for the Addison Division-leading Steelers (41-6-3). Joel Messner added a goal and two helpers, while Parker Thomas had three assists. Jackson Keane, Jordan McCallum and Ryan Bittner replied for Winnipeg (25-17-6).
Kings 5 Oil Capitals 1
In Dauphin, Tanner Lomsnes scored twice as the Kings stretched their lead in the Sher-Wood Division to four points over the Oil Capitals with their 10th win in a row.
Hudson Morrison of Souris and Mitch Van Teeling of Brandon were among the other scorers for the Kings (31-14-1).
Elkhorn’s Curtis Oliver scored for the Oil Capitals (28-14-3), who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Wolverines 2 Blizzard 1
In Waywayseecappo, Dylan Nelson scored the winning goal with 4:37 left in the third period. Johl Swedlo also scored, while MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe made 30 saves for the Wolverines (14-31-2).
Nakehko Lamoth replied for the Blizzard (17-28-4).
Stampeders 7 Natives 6 (OT)
In Neepawa, Nic Erb scored a trio of goals in the third period Orb and Dylan Favell scored 1:17 into overtime for the Stampeders (21-26-2), as they extended the Natives’ losing streak to 12 games. Boissevain’s Jagger Thomas scored one of the Swan Valley goals, while Carter Johnson had four assists.
Steven Phillips scored twice for the Natives (10-35-5), with Sam Briscoe, Riley Hillis, Henry Berger and Luke Karakas notching the other Neepawa goals.
Terriers 5 Steelers 4 (SO)
In Portage la Prairie, Brad Bowles scored three times as the Terriers snapped the Steelers’ 20-game winning streak. Waldvogel scored the only goal of the shootout.
Soren Fredriksen had two goals and an assist for the Steelers, tying the game with 49 seconds left in the third period to ensure Selkirk would earn at least a point for the 21st straight game.
Flyers 5 Pistons 4
In Steinbach, Travis Marit had two goals and an assist for the Flyers. Cartwright’s Bryce Enns assisted on two Winkler goals.
Nicholas Kobelka had a goal and an assist for the Pistons (33-14-2), who have lost five games in a row.
