Elkhorn’s Brad Bowles set up Jordon Boyd’s game-winning goal for the Portage Terriers Thursday night as they earned a 4-3 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders to open the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Showcase in Winnipeg.
Bowles finished the game with one goal and a helper. His twin brother Shawn also found the back of the net for Portage (4-1-0), which was led by Clay Van Diest’s one goal and three assist performance.
MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe remained undefeated in the Terriers’ net, stopping 34 of the 37 shots he faced to improve his record to 2-0 for the season.
Cole Holowenko made 45 saves for Swan Valley (3-4-0). Brayden MacDonald netted a pair of markers for the Stampeders, while Mitch Deacon scored the other.
Earlier in the day, the Stampeders sent 20-year-old forward Eric Walker to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s Miramichi Timberwolves for future considerations.
The Winkler Flyers traded 18-year-old forward Brent Aiken to the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Fort Frances Lakers for future considerations as well on Thursday.
