Brandonites Nolan Tutkaluk and Rod Klassen are leading the field through the first day of the 52nd annual Grey Owl Golf Tournament at Clear Lake Golf Course.
Tutkaluk and Klassen both shot 2-under-par 70s in rainy conditions to earn their lead. Tutkaluk hit back-to-back eagles on the fourth and fifth holes en route to a four-under score on the front nine.
Jarod Crane of Brandon and Clear Lake’s Chad Cumming both carded one-over 73s, but they have elected not to play in Sunday’s championship flight.
Grant Foster is leading the Greyer Owl Flight — for players 60 and older — after shooting a 78. Steve Johnston from QX104 FM holds the lead in the media flight after he shot a 77 on Friday.
The 36-hole event continues today with some golfers, like nine-time champion Garth Collings, playing their first round. The championship flight will be set after today’s round, with the competitors deciding the title on Sunday.
