Brandonite Isabela Onyshko won a bronze medal at the seventh annual International Federation of Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Qatar.
The 15-year-old member of the Brandon Eagles scored 13.725 points on her routine in the women’s floor final on Friday to place third. Romania’s Larisa Iordache, who was a 2013 world championship bronze medallist on the floor, won gold with a score of 14.425.
Onyshko reached the floor final by placing fourth in Wednesday’s qualifying round with a score of 13.900. She finished 11th in the uneven bars qualifier with a score of 11.550 and 20th in the beam qualifier at 11.350. She did not compete in the vault. The top eight in each qualifying group advanced to the finals.
Onyshko was the lone Canadian in the event, which featured Olympic and world champions.
