Two Brandonites celebrated the Stanley Cup championship in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Ron Hextall, who played three seasons for the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings from 1981-84 before beginning a storied NHL career that included winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1987, is in his sixth season as vice-president and assistant general manager of the Kings. Darren Granger, who also got his start with the hometown Wheat Kings as the team trainer for five years, is now in his sixth season as the head equipment manager for the Kings.

Meanwhile, Brandonite Bryce Salvador, a 36-year-old New Jersey Devils defenceman, finished the playoffs with four goals and 14 points, the best post-season performance of his 10-year NHL career.
