Jordan McCausland and Jordy Stallard each had two goals and an assist as the Brandon Wheat Kings grabbed a share of first place in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League with a 7-0 win over the Pembina Valley Hawks on Friday night.
League scoring leader Duncan Campbell had a goal and an assist as the Wheat Kings matched the Winnipeg Wild, who had the night off, at 8-1-0.
In Friday’s other Manitoba AAA Midget game on Friday, the Southwest Cougars beat the Parkland Rangers 4-3 in a shootout.
At the Sportsplex, Troy Heywood and Zach Whitecloud rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who have won five straight games. Tyler Gutenberg picked up the shutout with his 27-save performance.
Gavin and Travis Klassen shared the goaltending duties for the Hawks (7-3-0), combining to make 22 saves.
Cougars 4 Parkland 3 (SO)
At Souris, Tanner Lewis scored the only goal of the shootout to help the Cougars (4-5-1) snap a three-game losing streak.
Kyle Braybrook and Tanner Lewis had scored in the third period to give Southwest a 3-2 lead, but Chandler Ashcroft tied the game with 7:05 left in regulation.
Graham Hore also scored for the Cougars and added an assist, while Cole Oliver and Matthew Millan dished out two helpers apiece.
Ashcroft had a goal and an assist for the Rangers (3-3-3), who got their other markers from Tyler Derkach and Matthew Greening.
