Brandon's Greg Sherwin is the Manitoba mountain bike champion.

The 38-year-old member of the Brandon Bike Club captured the overall provincial championship title on Sunday at Grand Beach, completing four laps of the nine-kilometre course in a time of one hour, 53 minutes and 27 seconds to top the elite division. Sherwin rode a single speed mountain bike to take the title in the Olympic style race, topping a field of 90 top riders from across the province.

Sherwin's victory capped a successful season for the local mountain biker, who also won three previous races on the provincial circuit this season. Sherwin topped the eight-hour race at the Birch ski area on Aug. 15, topping the field by competing 15 laps of the 10-kilometre course that was used during the Pan Am Games. Sherwin also won the Morden Back 40 MTB Enduro competition on July 4, topping a field of 115 riders, and also finished first at the MTB Cup event at Grand Beach on May 2, which featured 97 bikers.

Next up for Sherwin is the eight-hour race at Buffalo Pound, Sask., slated for Sept. 11.
