Brandonites come up short at CrossFit qualifier

John Gillis and Zack McMillan may not have qualified for the CrossFit Games in July, but the Brandonites had respectable meets at the Canada West regional that was held on the weekend in Vancouver.

Gillis saved his best event for last as he finished 64 pull-ups and eight overhead squats in two minutes 32 seconds to place third in the seventh and final event of the three-day competition which wrapped up on Sunday. That boosted his overall finish to seventh in the individual men’s side of regionals.

Meanwhile, McMillan struggled in the four events on Saturday and Sunday. He never finished higher than 22nd in any of those events and placed 24th overall out of the 44 competitors.

The top two finishers in the region qualified for the CrossFit Games.
