The Wawanesa Brewers split their two SouthWest Senior AA Baseball League games on Sunday and the Hamiota Red Sox dominated the Deloraine Royals.
In the Brewers’ first game, Andrew Albrecht held Wawanesa to two runs in his seven innings on the mound and he went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored as the Boissevain Centennials won 5-2. Ryan Albrecht went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBIs. Derek McGregor took the loss after allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out four.
The Brewers’ bats exploded in their second game for a 16-5 victory over the Melita Beavers. The Brewers took advantage of six Beaver errors and seven walks from Brandon Ripley in the first 2 1/3 innings to score 13 runs.
McGregor hit a grand-slam home run and Trevor Kozak drove in three more runs.
Ryan Powers picked up the win by holding Melita to five runs and four hits while striking out six. Ripley drove in a pair of runs for Melita.
Meanwhile, Hamiota exploded for six runs in the first inning and four in the sixth as they blew out the visiting Deloraine Royals 12-4.
Chris Obach went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and held Deloraine to three runs and eight hits to pick up the win. Travis Brooks scored twice and picked up an RBI for Hamiota. Brad Lesy led Deloraine’s offence, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Jeff Edwards, who also went 2-for-4 with a run scored, took the loss after pitching a complete game where he allowed 12 hits and struck out seven.
