Briem sparks Waywayseecappo

Robert Briem scored in regulation time and was the only player to score in the shootout for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines as they edged the Swan Valley Stampeders 2-1 in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League on Friday night.

In Friday’s other games, it was: OCN Blizzard 4, Neepawa Natives 2; Selkirk Steelers 5, Dauphin Kings 0; and Winnipeg Blues 5, Winkler Flyers 3.

MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe made 27 for the Wolverines (17-36-3).

Colton Brausen replied for the Stampeders (26-30-3), who got an assist from Boissevain’s Jagger Thomas.

Blizzard 4 Natives 2

At Neepawa, David MacGregor and Tyler Grove both had a goal and an assist as the Blizzard (18-34-5) snapped their 11-game losing skid, while Killarney’s Brian Archibald made 36 saves.

Brady Bouchard and Riley Hillis replied for the Natives (13-39-5).

Steelers 5 Kings 0

At Selkirk, Dallas Starodub, Ty Kraus and Adam Wowryk all scored once and added a helper as the league-leading Steelers (45-7-4) won the battle of division leaders, while Braeden Ostepchuk made 33 saves for his seventh shutout of the season.

Jordan Piccolino made 19 saves in the first two periods for the Kings (36-17-2) before giving way to Michael Stiliadis, who stopped all nine shots he faced.

Blues 5 Flyers 3

At Winnipeg, Channing Bresciani and Jordan McCallum both had a goal and an assist for the Blues (29-20-6).

Evan Last netted a pair of markers for the Flyers (18-34-4).
