Brandonite Seth Friesen, Carberry’s Josh McMillan and Manitoba’s under-17 boys’ volleyball team returned home from the Western Elite Challenge in Edmonton with bronze medals.
Manitoba White beat B.C. Red in Sunday’s third-place match to come home with some hardware. The provincial team topped its preliminary round group before beating B.C. Blue in the quarter-finals and losing to eventual champion Alberta White in the semifinals. Manitoba Black, which includes Brandon’s Dylan Sutherland, lost the eighth-place match to Manitoba White.
In the girls’ championship, Manitoba Gold — which features Brandon’s Kaylynn Collier, Carberry’s Kelsey Jordan, MacGregor’s Shailyn Boschman and Russell’s Karissa Zimmer — beat Virden’s Carmen Ross and Allie Cantello and Manitoba White in the fifth-place match. Manitoba Black, which includes Paige Donald from Brandon as well as Forrest’s Georgia Maxwell, Oak River’s Hanna Kristjanson and Dauphin’s Sami Love, lost the eighth-place match to Saskatchewan White.
