Ashleigh Brykaliuk played the role of hero on Sunday, helping Canada defeat the United States to win the best-of-three under-18 hockey series in Blaine, Minn.
Brandon’s Brykaliuk had a goal and an assist for Team Canada, but saved her best work for the shootout, scoring again to give Canada a 5-4 win and clinch the series 2-1.
Bruxelle’s Cassidy Carels also figured into the result, scoring once, while Neepawa’s Halli Kryzaniak also added a goal.
The series is an evaluation tool used to pick Canada’s team for the world under-18 championship this winter.
