BU women's volleyball team still in playoff hunt

The Brandon University Bobcats stayed in the Canada West women’s volleyball playoff hunt by topping the host Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21) in Saskatoon on Saturday.

Victoria Dakin had 14 kills for Brandon (8-10), which sits one match back of the Manitoba Bisons and Calgary Dinos for the seventh and final playoff spot. Shanlee McLennan added 13 kills, Alexis Loewen had nine kills and was involved in six blocks, while Jodie Baker and Meaghan Robertson were involved in five blocks apiece for BU.

Candace Hueser led the Huskies (3-15) with 13 kills.

Meanwhile, the BU men’s volleyball team (10-8) dropped its fourth straight match with a 3-0 (29-27, 25-13, 25-22) loss to the Huskies (12-6). Sam Tuivai had 11 kills from Brandon, while Roy Ching added 10.

The loss drops the Bobcats into sixth place in Canada West, and two matches back of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and UBC for the fourth and final home playoff spot. Brandon can play catch up on Friday and Saturday as they host the UBC Thunderbirds at the Healthy Living Centre.
