Buckeyes too much for Plainsmen to handle

The Crocus Plainsmen varsity girls’ basketball team got off to a rough start at the Pembina Trails Classic in Winnipeg on Thursday as they fell 96-27 to the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes, who reached the provincial AAAA semifinals last season.

Shanelle Haliuk led Crocus with 10 points, while Desirae Pfeiffer added six points and six rebounds. Crocus will take on Teulon this morning in the consolation side of the draw.

Meanwhile, Neelin lost 77-45 to the Oak Park Raiders in their first game at the tournament. Paige Thomson led Neelin with 23 points, while Courtney Matienzo added 12. Neelin will take on the Neepawa Tigers in a consolation quarter-final today.
