Marshal Burgess threw a complete game two-hitter and struck out 11 for the Vincent Massey Vikings as they beat the Hamiota Huskies 4-0 in the provincial high school baseball interzone game at Andrews Field on Thursday night.
Mitch Lyall singled and drove in two runs, while Bradley Schoonbaert reached base three times, scored once and drove in a run for the Vikings, who will host provincials on May 29 and 30. Brett Kitt drove in Massey’s other run.
Morgan Geekie took the loss for Hamiota after allowing three runs on three hits and striking out four in four innings.
Massey’s win opens up a second wildcard spot at provincials, as the Vikings already had a berth locked up as hosts.
