BU's new facility opens on Friday

It’s official: Brandon University will christen the new Healthy Living Centre with a pair of Bobcat volleyball matches on Friday night.

BU’s women’s and men’s teams will take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in the first Canada West conference regular season games to be played in the new HLC complex.

“The teams are excited to be playing in the new building,” BU Athletic Director Russ Paddock stated in a news release. “We look forward to showing Bobcat fans and program supporters what the facility offers. We are excited for this chapter in the history of BU Athletics, but we’re even more excited for what the facility will offer once it is fully completed.”

The new main gymnasium will usually have seating for more than 1,000 fans, but will be limited to 450 for the opening weekend due to ongoing construction. With single-game tickets limited and likely to sell out quickly, fans are encouraged to guarantee their spot by purchasing season ticket packages at the BU athletics office or at Brandon Source for Sports.

The Bobcats women’s team will kick off the evening on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the BU men’s game at 7:45 p.m. Saturday’s action will start at 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
