Carberry’s Braden Calvert is a perfect 5-0 at the M&M Meat Shop Canadian junior curling championships.
Calvert’s Winnipeg-based foursome of Kyle Kurz, Lucas Van Den Bosch and Brendan Wilson whipped Stephen Tricett’s Newfoundland and Labrador foursome 10-5 in Monday night’s draw to win their fifth straight at nationals in Liverpool, N.S.
Calvert trailed twice early, 1-0 after the first end and 3-2 following the third end, and was tied 5-5 before scoring two in the seventh and stealing three more in the eighth to put the Newfies away. Calvert’s team faces Ontario this morning, with further draws yet to be finalized.
Meanwhile, in junior women’s action, Manitoba’s team skipped by Dauphin’s Meaghan Brezden brushed by Northern Ontario’s Krysta Burns 9-8 to improve to 3-2. Brezden’s foursome, which also includes Abby Ackland, Danielle LaFleur and Nikki Boulet, also faces Ontario this morning in their next draw.
