Skylar Canada of the Boissevain Broncos hockey team has been named the Tri-Star rural high school athlete of the week.

The 6-foot-3 centre racked up 10 goals and seven assists in four games from Jan. 13-20, including a three-goal, nine-point night in a Westman High School Hockey League game versus the Hamiota Huskies and another hat trick in a victory over the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats in a provincial A/AA playoff game. The Grade 12 student, who also plays baseball, golf and volleyball, sports an 88 per cent academic average.

"Skylar is both the leader on the ice and the leader in the room. … He has the ability to put the team on his back and take them to the next level," Broncos coach Allan Hicks said in a release.
