Brandon’s Amanda Thornborough has been named to Canada’s senior women’s sevens rugby team that will compete in this month’s Hong Kong Invitational Sevens Tournament.

Thornborough, a 23-year-old graduate of Vincent Massey high school and a former member of the Brandon Barbarians rugby team, was selected for the 12-member national team that will leave next week to compete in Hong Kong on March 22. Thornborough, an all-Canadian who led St. FX University to the 2012 CIS women’s rugby title, will then suit up for Team Canada in Guangzhou, China on March 30-31 in the third leg of the Women’s Sevens World Series.

After completing her studies at St. FX, Thornborough moved west in December to train full-time at the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence in Langford, B.C.
