Canada wraps Grand Prix with victory

The Canadian women’s volleyball team closed out the FIVB Grand Prix on a winning note on Sunday.

Kyla Richey had 11 kills, a block and two aces, while Shanice Marcelle added 10 kills, two blocks and an ace as Canada beat Peru 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Brandon’s Lisa Barclay dressed but didn’t play in the match for Canada, which finished Group 2 play with a 2-7 record.

On Saturday, Barclay came off the bench in every set and recorded three kills and a block as the Canadians fell 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16) to the host Argentinians. Richey led Canada with 16 kills.

Dauphin’s Tabi Love didn’t dress for Canada during the final weekend.

The team now returns home to prepare for the women’s world championship, which starts on Sept. 23 in Italy.
