Canada will take on Sweden on Friday in the semifinals at the women’s under-18 world hockey championship in Finland.
The Canadians, featuring Neepawa’s Halli Krzyzaniak, Brandonite Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Cassidy Carels of Bruxelles, enter the game with a 3-0 record in the championship, while the Swedes are 2-1-1 after their 4-0 quarter-final victory over Hungary on Wednesday.
The U.S. will play the Czech Republic in the other semifinal after the Czechs upset Finland 5-3 in a quarter-final yesterday.
The Canadians and Americans have met in the final each time in the event’s five-year history, with Canada winning its second title last year. Both teams earned byes to the semifinals by going undefeated in the preliminary round.
