Brandon’s Lisa Barclay played a prominent role, but couldn’t help Canada’s national women’s volleyball team upset the powerhouse United States in their opening game of the Pan Am Cup on Thursday in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
The 20-year-old left-side player, a Crocus Plains graduate who now plays at UBC, started all three sets and finished third on Canada with six kills and led the team with two blocks in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-15) loss to the U.S. The Americans — ranked No.1 in the world — will compete in the Summer Olympics in London later this month, while the Canadians — ranked 22nd in the world — came up short in their bid.
