Former Brandon high school stars Dustin Schneider and Toon Van Lankvelt helped Canada’s national men’s volleyball team tune up for the world championship with a five-set exhibition victory over Finland on Wednesday.
Schneider, a 28-year-old setter from Brandon, and Van Lankvelt, a 29-year-old left side from Rivers, helped the Canadians rally from two sets down to beat the host Finns 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 28-26).
Canada, ranked 15th in the world, officially opens the championship on Monday by battling Russia, which is ranked second.
