Carberry coach lauded

Carberry’s Ken Friesen received the Nick Laping Leadership Award at the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association annual awards luncheon on Monday.

Friesen has been a coach and teacher for 27 years, largely focusing on basketball and track and field. He has led teams to one provincial AA girls basketball title over the years as well as three silver medals and one bronze. He has been a member of the MHSAA board of directors and zone president.

Brandon’s Barb Coulter, who teaches and coaches at Crocus Plains, also received an award. She brought a certificate of recognition honouring longtime service and commitment to high school sports home from the ceremony in Gimli.
