Carberry rink takes high school crown

Braden Calvert and his Carberry team of Max Van Kommer, Braden Orchard and Nathan Malfait are provincial high school boys curling champions.

The Carberry squad capped its undefeated run in Plumas and Gladstone with a 9-1 win over Gimli’s Colton Lott in the B-event final on Saturday. Calvert beat Lott 8-3 in the A-event final on Friday to win both sides of the double-knockout draw.

Garden Valley’s Emily Dyck claimed the girls title by defeating Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey team 8-7 in the B-event final. Dyck eliminated Virden’s Samantha Rimke — the last Westman team standing — with an 8-2 win in the B-event semifinal on Saturday.
