Carberry’s Rob Van Kommerearned his spot in the provincial men’s curling championship at the MCA men’s bonspiel on Monday in Winnipeg.
Van Kommer earned his berth despite suffering a 5-3 loss to John Shuster of Duluth, Minn., in Monday afternoon’s playoff draw in the Free Press Event. Van Kommer’s team will now play in the Safeway Championship in Neepawa, slated for Feb. 6-10.
Meanwhile, former Brandonite William Lyburn, now curling out of Deer Lodge, lost 8-3 to Mark Lukowich of West Kildonan in the Asham Event final last night.
In other action, Virden’s Brent Duncan was facing Warren Reimer of the Granite in the Manitoba Pork Council Event final late last night. Duncan beat A.J. Hunter 8-4 in the morning draw.
Also Monday, Carberry’s Grant Calvert fell 7-1 to Pembina’s Lionel Walz in the Manitoba Hydro Event, Brandon’s Trevor Pomeroy lost 7-4 to Dale Dielschneidner of East St. Paul in thecurler.com Event, while Gladstone’s Geoff Trimble dropped a 7-4 decision to Dan Dixon of Victoria in the Lazer Grant Event.
