Carberry’s Braden Calvert goes into the second round with a perfect 6-0 record at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships in Liverpool, N.S.
Calvert’s Winnipeg-based foursome, with Kyle Kurz, Lucas Van Den Bosch and Brendan Wilson, wrapped up pool play on Tuesday morning with a 7-4 victory over Ontario’s Ryan McCrady, blowing the game open by scoring four in the seventh end.
<t-4.6>Calvert now competes in the eight-team championship round that begins today, with his preliminary record carrying over to the next round as he tries to advance to this weekend’s playoffs. Calvert faces New Brunswick (5-1) and Alberta
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Dauphin native Meaghan Brezden’s Winnipeg-based team qualified for the eight-team championship round with a 3-3 record. Brezden finished preliminary play by dropping a 7-3 decision to Ontario’s Molly Greenwood, giving up three in the eighth and a steal of one in the ninth. Brezden begins final-eight play today with a pair of games.
