Cardinals close in on Senior AA title

The Canadian Tire Cardinals are on the verge of a league title after winning in dramatic fashion on Monday night at Andrews Field.

With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dustin Asham cashed in two runs with a drive to left field to give the Cardinals a 7-6 victory over the Joe Beeverz Young Guns to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League championship series. Game 4 is slated for Wednesday at Andrews Field at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals capitalized on a couple of errors, a single and two walks in the decisive inning after the Young Guns had taken a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Jeff Neufeld led the Cardinals by going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs scored and an RBI, while Shawn Martin was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for the Young Guns.

Jeff Peel worked all seven innings to earn the win, giving up 11 hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Sean Clegg took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings while striking out two.
