Brandon Sun - PRINT EDITION

Chiefs beat Lightning to snap losing streak

Josh Martin and Shawn Bowles both scored a pair of goals and recorded two helpers to help the Yellowhead Chiefs snap their two-game Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League losing streak by beating the host Interlake Lightning 7-2 Sunday afternoon.

Brock Paddock, Tanner Kyle and Nolan Speiss also scored for Yellowhead (6-2-0). Brett Orr added two assists and Brett Friesen made 39 saves in the Yellowhead net.

In Sunday’s other game, it was Southwest Cougars 2, Parkland Rangers 1.

On Saturday, it was: Brandon Wheat Kings 9, Parkland Rangers 0; and Winnipeg Thrashers 7, Yellowhead Chiefs 3.

Cougars 2 Rangers 1

At Souris, Daylon Creasy and Cameron Whyte both had a goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (4-3-1), who got a 19-save performance from Josh Diaz.

Nicolas Schneider replied for Parkland (1-6-0).

Wheat Kings 9 Rangers 0

At Dauphin, Josh Kobelka scored three times and Tyler Gutenberg made 15 saves as the Wheat Kings earned their second shutout victory in as many nights. Brayden Compton had a goal and two assists, while Robert Hechler, Tanner Kaspick, Duncan Campbell, Austin Dorn and Brett Kitt scored the other goals for the Wheat Kings. Jaxon Elmes had three assists for Brandon.

Matt Kohlman made 38 saves for Parkland.

Thrashers 7 Chiefs 3

At Winnipeg, Keegan Kolesar scored two goals and set up three others to lead the Thrashers. Josh Martin had a goal and assist for the Chiefs, while Nolan Speiss and Brock Paddock scored the other Yellowhead goals. Matthew Short and Brett Friesen combined to stop 27 shots for the Chiefs.
