The Yellowhead Chiefs staved off elimination from the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League playoffs with a 4-2 win over the Pembina Valley Hawks Tuesday in Shoal Lake.
Josh Martin fired the winning goal and added an assist for the Chiefs, who got power-play goals from Martin and Shawn Bowles, a short-hander from Dylan Bonchuk and wrapped up the night with Taylor Sanheim’s empty-net tally.
Colt Conrad scored for the Hawks and set up Lawson McDonald’s goal. Pembina Valley leads the best-of-five quarter-final 2-1 and gets another chance to wrap up the series on Friday in Morden.
Tonight the Southwest Cougars visit Winnipeg, with the host Thrashers leading their best-of-five series 2-0.
