Chiefs take tourney opener

Taylor Sanheim and Tanner Koroscil both scored in the final five minutes to lift the Yellowhead Chiefs to a 3-2 win over Southwest at the Cougars’ Midget AAA pre-season tournament in Souris on Thursday.

The Cougars jumped out to a 2-1 lead courtesy of goals by Tanner Lewis and Keaton Jameson, but couldn’t hang on. Sanheim netted the other goal for Yellowhead, which was playing in its first game of the tournament. The Cougars fell to 0-2 in the event.

In Thursday’s late game, Tyler Coulter scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Central Plains Capitals 6-2 to improve to 4-1 in pre-season play.
