Neepawa’s Jerry Chudley stole points in the fifth and sixth ends and hung on to beat Carberry’s Tina Kozak 6-5 in Brandon Sun Westman Super League of Curling action on Wednesday night at the Brandon Curling Club.
Kozak (1-2) made a spirited comeback by scoring two in the seventh and stealing one in the eighth, but couldn’t overcome the 6-2 deficit after six ends. Chudley (3-0) remained undefeated on the season.
In Wednesday night’s other games, it was: Rob Van Kommer 8, Curtis McCannell 5; Jim Renwick 8, Perry Fisher 3; Kelly Skinner 9, Kelly Marnoch 4; Terry McNamee 7, Brian Fowler 2; and Duane Lang 8, Mark Anderson 3.
Van Kommer 8 McCannell 5
Van Kommer’s Carberry foursome (1-2) scored deuces in the first and fourth ends and stole two points in the seventh to secure their win. McCannell (1-2), who’s from Pilot Mound, scored two in the third and three in the fifth end.
Renwick 8 Fisher 3
Renwick (2-1) and his Brandon team stole one in the sixth end and three in the seventh before shaking hands with Fisher’s Wawanesa squad (1-2). The lone deuce for Fisher came in the third end.
Skinner 9 Marnoch 4
Brandon’s Skinner (1-2) scored a big four in the fourth end and two in the sixth to secure his first victory of the season. Marnoch’s Carberry team (1-2) scored singles in the first and third and a deuce in the fifth end.
McNamee 7 Fowler 2
McNamee (3-0) stole four points to win this battle of Brandon teams. Fowler (1-2) only managed a deuce in the second end.
Lang 8 Anderson 3
In the matchup of Riverview squads, Lang (3-0) put up three in the seventh end and a pair of deuces to top Anderson (0-3), who managed a single in the third and a deuce in the fifth.
