Clippers clinch their trip to provincials

The Dauphin Clippers struck for three goals in a span of two minutes 35 seconds in the second period Thursday night to advance to the provincial AAA/AAAA high school hockey championship in Winnipeg from March 14-17.

Nolan Sokolan, Nicholas Machibroda and Brendan Kruk scored in that frame as the Clippers beat the Vincent Massey Vikings 7-0 at Kinsmen Arena to sweep their best-of-three provincial qualifying series 2-0. Sokolan scored two goals, while Maxime Lizotte, Theron Ash and Josh Yaschyshyn had singles and Cole Richot stopped 17 shots for the shutout. Cooper Blaine made 41 saves for the Vikings.

Meanwhile, the Deloraine/Hartney Colts won the opening game of the best-of-three provincial A/AA qualifier final 5-2 over the Melita/Waskada Devils on Friday night in Hartney. The first game in the other qualifying final between he Major Pratt Trojans and the Neepawa Tigers was postponed.
