The Brandon Cloverleafs stretched their lead atop the Manitoba Senior Baseball League standings on Tuesday night at Andrews Field.
The Cloverleafs defeated the defending champion Reston Rockets 9-5 to improve to 10-2 and move five points up on the second-place Brandon Marlins, who fell 2-1 to the host Oak River Dodgers last night. The Marlins host the Neepawa Farmers at Andrews Field tonight.
Cloverleafs starter Sean Dryden worked seven innings, striking out five while scattering five hits and giving up five unearned runs, to earn the win. Brody Pinkerton surrendered five hits with a pair of strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings to take the loss for Reston (4-5-1).
Jason Shaun went 2-for-4 and scored twice for Brandon, while Travis Jean doubled and scored two runs. Josh Martin doubled and scored twice for Reston, while Andrew Lochhead doubled and walked.
Dodgers 2 Marlins 1
In Oak River, Morgan Geekie singled and scored a run while Al Martin walked and scored in a two-run second inning to lift the Dodgers (4-7-0) past the Marlins (7-3-1).
Eric Zamrykut singled and scored, while Shayne MacGranachan singled and drove in the lone run for the Marlins.
Brody Burnett struck out four and scattered five hits over six innings to earn the win, while Brody Smith followed with three hitless, shutout innings with three strikeouts to earn the save.
Brandon’s Ryan Duncan took the loss, striking out 10 while giving up two hits and six walks over seven innings.
