Matt Gunning geared up Wednesday for the Brandon Cloverleafs’ opening game this morning at the Canadian Senior AAA Baseball Championship in Windsor, Ont.
Gunning went gunning for a title in last night’s home run derby, launching 17 in the three-round event, including three in the final round to finish second to B.C.’s Scott Webster, who cranked five dingers in the final round.
This morning, Gunning and the Cloverleafs will open nationals by battling New Brunswick in the opening game, bright and early at 9 a.m. It will be the Cloverleafs’ lone game of the day, with matchups against B.C. and the host Windsor team on Friday, before closing out pool play against Alberta on Saturday.
The Cloverleafs earned the right to go to nationals by winning the Manitoba Senior Baseball League championship in 2012.
