Matt Gunning was a perfect 4-for-4, with one run scored and two more batted in as the Brandon Cloverleafs expanded their lead atop the Manitoba Senior Baseball League on Wednesday night with an 8-4 win over the Brandon Marlins.
In Wednesday’s other game, it was Oak River Dodgers 4, Reston Rockets 1.
At Andrews Field, Anthony Friesen scattered four runs and nine hits while striking out nine in eight innings to pick up the win for the Cloverleafs (11-2-0). Sam McNeice took the loss for the second-place Marlins (8-4-1), giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings of work. He struck out six.
Justin Funk and Pearce McDonald both scored twice and collected an RBI for the Cloverleafs, while Casey Clark drove in two runners. Clark Whelpton was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Marlins, while Nolan Jago went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Dodgers 4 Rockets 1
At Oak River, Duncan Paddock tripled and drove in two runs as the Dodgers (5-7-0) leapfrogged the Rockets (4-6-1) to move into third place. Drew Birss had a run and an RBI, while Mike McFadden was 3-for-4. Ryan Shaw gave up one run and four hits in six innings to pick up the win on the mound, while Taw Fredrickson went three innings for the save.
Mitch Olson went 3-for-3 and drove in the Rocket run, while Zane Sawyer took the loss after giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings.
