The Brandon University Bobcats women’s basketball team had a much better effort on Saturday night and cruised to a 61-35 win over the Dakota College at Bottineau Ladyjacks.
Once again, BU led from the first basket to final buzzer, but they showed a lot more effort and tried a few different things that impressed head coach Novell Thomas.
“We went with some different looks and saw some good things,” Thomas said after his team improved to 5-2 in pre-season play. “We played Aimee (Johnston) a little bit more at the five (post) and she was aggressive, which was good. We just have to get in the habit of being aggressive. When we’re aggressive, other things seem to fall into place, other shooters get shot opportunities. It was good to get Aimee playing at the five so other posts can see the options they can run.”
Johnston led the Bobcats with 22 points and 10 rebounds. First-year forward Ambrea McDonald-Okoro added 11 points and five rebounds.
Brandon played all weekend without fourth-year forward Chantel Gaslard, who’s out with a leg injury. The Bobcats hope to have her back in the lineup when they face the Jamestown Jimmies and the Mayville State Comets next weekend in Jamestown, N.D.
