Cobras strike early and often in final

Adam Brooks of the Manitoba Cobras takes a shot on netminder Mario Petit of the Eastwest Connection during the AAA Hockey Challenge championship final at the Kinsmen Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Brandonite Tyler Coulter scored a pair of goals and set up four others for the Manitoba Cobras as they won the Source for Sports AAA Challenge final 10-6 over Eastwest Connection on Sunday afternoon at Kinsmen Arena.

Jordan Kaspick, another Brandon product, added two goals and an assist for the Cobras, who went 3-1 in the round-robin before scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the final, while Brandon Wheat King Ryley Lindgren had a goal and three assists.

Brandon Switzer replied with a pair of goals for Connection, while fellow Brandonite Jordy Stallard had a goal and two assists.

In the round-robin games:

Connection 4 Prospects 2

On Sunday, Stallard scored twice while Matt LeBlanc and Wheat King prospect Colt Conrad had a pair of helpers for Connection (3-1). Quinton Lisoway, another member of the Wheaties, and Tyler Woodhouse replied for the Prospects (3-1).

Stars 3 Selects 1

Gordie Wasteste led Mallard (1-3) to its lone win with a goal and an assist, while Cody Ellingson added two helpers. Deloraine’s Jordan McCausland replied for the Selects (0-4).

Prospects 11 Selects 6

On Saturday, Lisoway had two goals and three assists for the Prospects, while Remi Laurencelle, Johl Swedlo and Joey Sutherland all added two markers. Josh Tripp had a hat trick for the Selects.

Cobras 7 Connection 3

Lindgren netted a hat trick, while Adam Brooks chipped in with two goals and a helper for the Cobras. Brandonite James Shearer had a goal and an assist for Eastwest.

Prospects 10 Stars 1

Tyrel Armstrong and Junior Keeper both scored twice for the Prospects. Johnny Beaulieu replied for Mallard.

Cobras 8 Selects 5

Brandonite Brett Kitt had three goals and an assist to lead the Cobras. McCausland scored twice for the Selects.
