Colt Conrad of St. Alphonse had two goals and three assists as the Pembina Valley Hawks ousted the Yellowhead Chiefs from the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League playoffs with a 7-3 win on Friday night in Morden.
Colin Grenier and Scott Gall each had a goal and two assists as the Hawks won the best-of-five quarter-final 3-1. Nathan Karlowsky had a goal and an assist, while Derek Wood and Michael Knaub also found the net for Pembina Valley.
Bradley Bowles responded with two goals for the Chiefs, who got their other goal as well as an assist from Travis Sanheim.
Brett Friesen and Matthew Short combined to make 16 saves in the Yellowhead net.
The Brandon Wheat Kings were attempting to complete a three-game sweep of the Kenora Thistles in another AAA Midget quarter-final late Friday night. The game, in Kenora, Ont., was in progress in overtime as of press time.
The Thistles are scheduled to host a tentative Game 4 today, if necessary.
