Michael Fortin scored the game-tying goal with 1:59 left in regulation time and then netted the shootout winner for the Southwest Cougars as they beat the visiting Yellowhead Chiefs 3-2 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League on Sunday.

The Chiefs (13-14-2) jumped out to a pair of one-goal leads in Souris courtesy of power-play markers by Tanner Koroscil and Morgan Geekie.

The Cougars (14-13-2) drew even in the second period with a power-play goal of their own by Cole Oliver before Fortin forced extra time.

Tanner Kyle assisted on both Yellowhead goals, while Brett Friesen made 24 saves. Tyler Crowe stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced in 20 minutes of work, while Josh Diaz made 13 saves on 14 shots in 45 minutes.
