The Southwest Cougars had the best showing of all the Westman teams at the Bantam AAA boys’ hockey showcase at Selkirk on the weekend.
Southwest capped its 2-1-1 run on Sunday with a 3-3 tie against the Winnipeg Monarchs. Tyler Kirkup, Mitch Dillabough and Cole Kirkup all scored for the Cougars, who beat the Winnipeg Hawks 3-1 in their early game on Saturday. Dillabough, Tyler Kirkup and Dawson Waddell scored in that game.
The Cougars’ only loss came Saturday evening at the hands of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Brandon won the game 4-1 courtesy of a two-goal effort by Chipper Osiname. Brendan Kokorudz and Clark Nachtigall added singles. Tristen Cross replied for Southwest.
Brandon finished the weekend with a 2-2-0 record. It fell 5-2 to the Parkland Rangers Saturday morning and 6-1 to the Eastman Selects on Sunday. Kokorudz and Brendan English scored in Saturday’s contest.
Carson Ransom was the only Brandon player to find the back of the net on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Yellowhead Chiefs went 1-2-1 on the weekend.
Morgan Geekie and Dayton Heino both scored in their finale, a 2-2 tie with the Winnipeg Hawks on Sunday.
Jacob Tibbats and Dylan Kimpinski both had two goals and one assist in their 9-4 win over the NorMan Wolves on Saturday.
They fell 5-3 to the Winnipeg Monarchs later in the day. Heino, Brody Smith and William Rainka all had goals in that contest.
