Coulter fires four to lead Brandon

Tyler Coulter scored four times to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-1 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League victory over the Interlake Lightning on Friday.

With the win, the Wheat Kings stretched their lead to three points in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s West Division.

In Friday’s other games, it was: Yellowhead Chiefs 2, Parkland Rangers 1 in overtime; and Southwest Cougars 4, Central Plains Capitals 3.

At the Sportsplex, Brett Kitt had a goal and three assists, while Tanner Kaspick also set up three goals as the Wheat Kings (28-7-2) won their fourth straight game. Coltyn Bates scored the other Brandon goal, while Justin Holder made 28 saves for the win. Clayton Tait scored for the Lightning (6-29-2), who have lost 18 straight games.

Chiefs 2 Rangers 1 (OT)

At Shoal Lake, Bradley Bowles scored the winning goal with eight seconds remaining in the overtime period. Bowles had both goals on the night for Chiefs (26-10-3), who moved into a tie for second place in the West Division with the Pembina Valley Hawks. Matthew Short made 18 saves for the Chiefs.

Nicholas Schneider scored for the Rangers (5-31-2), who lost their fifth game in a row despite 32 saves from goaltender Matt Kohlman of McCreary.

Cougars 4 Capitals 3

At Souris, Jordan McCausland paced the Cougars (20-17-2) with two goals.

Tanner Lewis and Daylon Creasy netted the other Southwest markers, while Meyer Nell and Carter Suski each had two assists.

Tyson Verhelst made 33 saves for the Cougars — two more than Bronson Ammeter of the Capitals (16-18-3).
