Brandonite Kurtis Cullen won a doubles consolation title at the Canadian Racquetball Championships on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Cullen teamed up with Coby Iwaasa of Lethbridge, Alta., to win the Men’s Doubles Blue Division title with a 15-11, 15-7 triumph over Nicolas Bousquet and Tommy Murray of Montreal. Cullen and Iwaasa dropped their quarter-final match in the top Gold Division, but rallied to win their consolation semifinal and final.
Cullen, who is ranked 13th in the country and seeded ninth for this week’s championship, begins men’s singles action this morning by facing 24th-ranked Anthony Schonberger of Hamilton in the round of 32.
The men’s singles division got a lot more interesting when top-ranked Mike Green withdrew this week due to injury.
