Curle falls in A final

Minnedosa’s Jennifer Curle proved she can play with some of Manitoba’s top junior women’s curling teams over the weekend.

Curle and her team of Gillian Lewis, Paxton Johnson and Hayley Surovy made it all the way to the A-event final at the Christmas bonspiel in Winnipeg, but eventually fell 6-2 to Winnipeg’s Christine MacKay on Saturday. MacKay qualified for the provincial junior championships, which will be held at the Brandon Curling Club from Jan. 3-7, with the victory. Curle already had a spot at provincials.

In the junior men’s side, Winnipeg’s Matt Dunstone won the A-event final 8-3 over fellow Winnipegger Colin Kurz 8-3. Kurz earned a spot at provincials for reaching the final. Pembina’s Nathaniel Swanson secured the other berth by topping Jacques Gauthier in a battle of B- and C-event winners.
